Khardung La is on almost every traveler’s wish list, and it has rightfully earned its reputation as one of the highest motorable roads in the world after all. Located at an altitude of 18380 feet, it falls on a scenic road in Ladakh which serves as the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys.

Before hitting the road, make sure you have the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to cross Khardung La, which can be obtained from the District Commissioner’s office in Leh. To avoid unnecessary hassle, try to keep more than one copy of the ILP with you as they will be needed at checkpoints along the way.

You can always encourage bikers on the way by giving them a boost if you want!
Once at the top, you will find a small canteen that serves hot maggi, tea and
thukpa. Since you’ve come all this way, it’s a good idea to eat something and hang out a bit. Don’t practice much and try to click pictures for memories. Stop at the souvenir shop at the top, buy something, so you can tell the world about your accomplishment.
