Australia approves India-made Covaxin for travel, Australia

In major news, the Australian government decided to approve products made in India Covaxine for travel purposes. The government recognized the Bharat Biotech project on Monday Covaxine vaccine and added it to the vaccination status of its travelers.

Australian High Commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell took to Twitter and announced: “Today the Therapeutic Goods Administration determined that the Covaxin vaccine (manufactured by BharatBiotech) would be ‘recognized’ for the purpose establish the immunization status of a traveler. ”

He further wrote: “It is important to note that the recognition of Covaxin, as well as the previously announced recognition of Covishield (manufactured by AstraZeneca India), means that many citizens, as well as other countries, will now be considered as fully vaccinated upon entry into Australia. ”

A statement released by the Australian Department of Health informed that the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has additional information demonstrating these vaccines and that it offers protection and also potentially reduces the likelihood of an inbound traveler transmitting the COVID virus -19 to others.

This means that many Indians (including students and workers) who had taken photos of Covaxin could travel to Australia. This is a big step for India because the World Health Organization (WHO) has still not approved the vaccine. The health agency tweeted that it had “decided that further clarification from the manufacturer (Bharat Biotech) was needed to conduct a final risk-benefit assessment of EUL for global use of the Covaxin vaccine.”
