Cricket South Africa announces revised schedule for India tour, Centurion to host first test

India will play test matches in Centurion, Johannesburg and Cape Town during their tour of South Africa which begins later this month, Cricket South Africa reported on Monday.

The first test of the World Championship kicks off at Centurion’s SuperSport Park on December 26.

The second test will be played at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg from January 3-7, with the final test scheduled for Newlands in Cape Town from January 11-15.

The Test Series will be followed by three one-day internationals, the first two in Paarl on January 19-21 and the third in Newlands on January 23.

The one-day matches will be part of the International Cricket Council’s World Cup Super League.

With South Africa hit by travel restrictions following the discovery of the rapidly spreading Omicron variant of the coronavirus, CSA announced last week that the tour will be conducted under strict biosecurity conditions.

India, which won a series of tests against New Zealand in Mumbai on Monday, will travel to South Africa by charter flight and go directly to bio-secure accommodation in the Gauteng region for the first two tests.

They will then travel to Cape Town for the remaining matches. Boland Park in Paarl is approximately 50 km from Cape Town.

The tour was originally scheduled to start on December 17 and run through January 26, with four T20 internationals to play after the one-day matches.

It was announced last week that the tour will be delayed and shortened due to the coronavirus situation.

The T20 internationals will be played later in 2022.

The discovery of the Omicron variant resulted in travel bans to and from South Africa by many countries and also disrupted sporting events, including a tour of the Netherlands cricket team which was halted after the first of three one-day games.

But South Africa praised India for its “solidarity” in continuing a three-match, four-day series between the A-teams of the two countries, currently played in Bloemfontein, and for maintaining their commitment to the game. Test tour.
