“Rohit will remain isolated. There is no urgency yet to make a decision on the captaincy. If Rohit tests negative by June 30, he will be available for the game. He’s in good shape and shouldn’t be a problem.” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.

The chairman (selection committee) will reach England after the Irish series and if a captaincy decision needs to be made he will do so at that time,” he added.

Will Rohit Sharma play 5th Test? India captain Rohit Sharma tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday and missed the final day of the warm-up match against Leicestershire. Bumrah led the Indian outfit in his absence.

Rohit Sharma is in mandatory solitary confinement until June 29 and will only be available a few days before the 5th IND vs ENG test. Two negative PCR tests should eliminate Rohit and make him available for the rescheduled game. The Indian captain was fit and eager to leave before being forced into solitary confinement.

India have already lost vice-captain KL Rahul to injury. But in his absence, India has no official vice-captain. In case of absence of Rohit, India should opt for a new skipper. Jasprit Bumrah, who was appointed vice-captain in South Africa for a test match, would pick up the slack if needed. A final decision on this will be taken by Chetan Sharma, who reached England on June 28.
