New Delhi: Team India suffered a major setback before leaving for the South African tour. Rohit Sharma, the new White Ball cricket captain, was reportedly injured during a training session in Mumbai, InsideSport reported.
According to InsideSport’s report, new Test vice-captain Rohit along with his teammates Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shardul Thakur were training in the nets at Sharad Pawar Academy in the afternoon.
It was during this training session that Rohit Sharma was hit by the hand ball thrown by Indian throwing specialist Raghuvendra, after which the star hitter suffered a lot. However, no official information has been given by BCCI about Rohit’s injury.
Rohit Sharma had recently posted a video on his Instagram account on Friday, in which he can be seen practicing batting.
During the session, Rohit faced fiery deliveries with plenty of bounce, very similar to what he might face from South African fast bowlers in the near future. It appears that Rohit was training for the conditions he might face on South African soil.
The Indian team will depart for South Africa from Mumbai on December 16. Due to threats from Omicron in South Africa, the series will be played in a bio-bubble. India are set to play the first Test of the three-game series on the South African tour starting December 26 at Centurion’s SuperSport Park.
