Bombay: India’s vice-test captain Rohit Sharma was hit in the hand during a net session in Mumbai and BCCI have called in India’s captain Priyank Panchal to replace him ahead of the South Africa tour this month . As of now, the extent of Rohit’s injury is unclear after he suffered a blow while being thrown by team specialist Raghavendra aka Raghu.
“There are a few issues with his hand, but the medical team are trying to fix them,” a source close to the cricketer told PTI.
Meanwhile, a BCCI official informed that Panchal, who scored 96 goals in an A test match against South Africa A, has been called up as a cover.
âPanchal has been asked to report to the Mumbai team hotel tonight. He’s there to cover Rohit. Also because he recently played in South Africa and scored points, he was asked to join us, âsaid the manager.
Panchal, Gujarat’s lead hitter, was in good shape with 120 points for India A with an average of just over 40. He has 100 first-class game experience and has 7011 points with a average of 45.52 and has had 24 hundreds under his belt.
It’s a big development after there was speculation about Rohit’s injury. BCCI could make an announcement soon.
