India tour to England: R Ashwin and Mithali Raj pose from charter plane as Indian players arrive in Mumbai

Indian cricketers to England started arriving in Mumbai on chartered flights from different parts of the country ahead of the UK tour. Indian stars including R Ashwin and women’s test team captain Mithali Raj were seen posing on Wednesday on Wednesday. organized charter plane by the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI).

A chartered plane carried players from Chennai and Hyderabad on Wednesday. R Ashwin, Mithali Raj, Mohammed Siraj, Mayank Agarwal and Washington Sundar were seen on their way to Mumbai. In particular, Agarwal had driven from Bengaluru to Chennai to board the chartered plane in the latter city.

Meanwhile, in a photo shared by Shubman Gill, the India opener can be seen heading to the airport with batsman Rishabh Pant. A chartered plane is also arranged from Delhi to Mumbai. Players residing in Mumbai will be allowed to join the rest of their teammates later this week.

“First stop, Mumbai,” BCCI wrote in an article while sharing footage of Indian players from the chartered plane.

Indian players on the senior men’s and women’s squad are expected to be quarantined at the hotel for 14 days before leaving for the UK. Mandatory Covid-19 tests will be performed when players are in home isolation. People like Wriddhiman Saha and Prasidh Krishna, who recently recovered from Covid-19 were allowed to join the rest of the camp in Mumbai on May 23.

The Indian men’s team will play up to 6 tests in England, including the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in June. Virat Kohli’s team will play 5 tests against the host country in August-September.

On the other hand, the women’s team will play one Test, 3 ODIs and as many T20Is against England in June-July.

BCCI are likely to secure UK government travel exemption for the families of Team India players ahead of the grueling 3.5-month tour of England. Indian cricketers returned home from their IPL bio-bubbles after the tournament was postponed on May 4 due to several positive cases of Covid-19 among teams in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
