No Sunburn Festival in Goa this year

Goa will not host the popular annual Sunburn Festival this year. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently made the announcement stating that no permission has been given for the said festival to be held this year.

The Chief Minister says the popular electronic dance music (EDM) Sunburn festival hosted by Percept Live, which is one of the state’s end-of-year tourism highlights, will not be staged this time due to the COVID situation.

Speaking to media staff, he added: “We have not allowed Sunburn to hold the festival this year. I have already passed the file mentioning it.

Referring to this, Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said he was of the view that the festival should be held but added that the chief minister’s word on the matter is final.

The Minister of Tourism further added that any decision to host such an event is taken by the Chief Minister. He added that they (CMO) are aware of the pandemic situation and SOPs. Although the file reached them, they sent it to the CMO for decision, he repeated. The final decision is therefore taken by the Chief Minister, adding that the Chief Minister could have taken the call keeping in mind the COVID situation in the state.
