India 151 for 3 (Hooda 59, Suryakumar 36*) beaten derbyshire 150 for 8 (Madsen 28, Cartwright 27, Arshdeep 2-29, Umran 2-31) by seven wickets
Led by Dinesh Karthik in the 11v11 contest, the visitors opted in and rocked Derbyshire by knocking out openers Shan Masood and Luis Reece inside four overs. That was to be the order of the day for the hosts, who had no momentum at any point. No less than four Derbyshire batters started, none topping No. 3 Wayne Madsen’s 28.
From 88 for 5 in 13th, they managed to post 150 thanks in large part to Alex Hughes (24 of 17) and Hilton Cartwright (27 of 26). Late kicks from Arshdeep and Umran, who picked up two wickets each, ensured Derbyshire did not get a final kick.
The Indians lost Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first round but courteously pressed two half-century positions. The first (51 runs) between Samson and Hooda was to lay the foundation for the chase, the second (78 runs), between Hooda and Suryakumar, was to build and finish the job. Hooda fell for a 59 from 37 balls with India needing 17, which they finished in just 16.4 overs.
The Indians head up the road to Northampton for their second warm-up game on Sunday ahead of the three-game T20I series from July 7.
