“Priyank Panchal replaces injured Rohit Sharma in the Indian test team. Rohit injured his left hamstring during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. He was excluded from the next round of 3-game tests against South Africa ”, BCCI said in a statement.

Ajinkya Rahane is expected to take over the role of vice-captain for the Test series. However, the BCCI has yet to officially confirm. Rohit Sharma has been elevated to vice-test captain, removing South Africa series lead Rahane.

While BCCI said it was a hamstring injury, it was reported that Rohit Sharma received a blow to the hand. According to a PTI report, Rohit, who has been appointed vice-captain, winced in pain when a delivery from overturn specialist D Raghvendra hit his gloves.

“There are a few problems with his hand, but the medical team are trying to fix them,” he added. a source close to the cricketer told PTI.

Meanwhile, a BCCI official has informed that Panchal, who scored 96 in an A test match against South Africa A, has been called up as a cover.

“Panchal has been asked to report to the Mumbai team hotel tonight. He’s there to cover Rohit. Also because he recently played in South Africa and scored points, he was asked to join ”, the official informed.
