Indian team skipper Rohit Sharma is reportedly missing the next test against England after testing positive for Covid-19 last week.
Team India will be without its skipper Rohit Sharma for the highly anticipated rescheduled test against England. The match is expected to start on Friday (July 1) and Rohit is not said to be fit for the clash.
Rohit had taken a rapid antigen test on Saturday and tested positive. Following the diagnosis, he was placed in isolation in his hotel room. A few days later, BCCI added Mayank Agarwal to the team as a reserve flyhalf.
Rohit Sharma test outside England:
On Monday, Rohit Sharma gave a seemingly positive update to his fans from his hotel room. He had posted a photo on his Instagram story in which he could be seen giving a thumbs up. Rohit’s message made many believe that he was recovering well and would be fit in time for the next test.
However, recent reports suggest otherwise. According to ANI, Rohit will miss the next test and he will be replaced by Jasprit Bumrah as team captain. If Bumrah continues to lead the team in the test, it will be his first-ever game as team captain.
KL Rahul was the vice-captain of the team when the team was announced in May. However, he too was ruled out of the match due to a groin injury.

While Bumrah looks set to lead the team in Rohit’s absence, Mayank is likely to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill in the skipper’s absence. Gill and Mayank are the team’s only two designated fly-half.
Missing Rohit would be a blow for Team India. He was one of India‘s performers in the first four Tests last year. In 4 Tests, he had sprayed 368 runs at an average of 52.27 including a hundred at The Oval. Meanwhile, India lead the series 2-1 and only need a draw in the next clash to clinch a first Test series victory in England since 2007.
