India Tour of Sri Lanka: SLC thanks Rahul Dravid for completing the series despite the COVID epidemic, says “If he wanted, he could have taken over the team”: Rahul Dravid received another heap of praise, this time from the Sri Lankan board of directors for duly completing the Lankan streak despite the Covid outbreak in the Indian camp. SLC secretary Mohan de Silva said the tour could have been halted after Krunal Pandya tested positive before the second T20I. On the contrary, de Silva mentioned that Dravid acknowledged SLC’s efforts to take control of the situation.

If he wanted to, he could easily have brought the team back to India. The most encouraging aspect of the whole Pandya episode was the role of the support staff of the Indian team, led by Rahul. If he wanted to, he could easily have brought the team back to India. He was very accommodating and understood the situation. He appreciated our efforts and realized that we were doing our best to protect the boys from the dangers of the virus with all biosecurity guidelines.SLC secretary Mohan de Silva told Cricbuzz.

Although India is in a difficult situation, Krunal Pandya’s positive report resulted in the isolation of nine other players. This left India in a handcuffed situation where the Indian team found themselves with exactly 11 players available to line up the remaining matches. Despite the isolation of key players, head coach Rahul Dravid made the bold decision to continue the series on schedule.

We have 11 players available and we are going to play them. There is nothing to regret. All 11 are good enough to make the XI and that is why they were picked into the squad. I think it’s exciting to see them play. Yes, the balance on the side will be a bit fragile because you can only draw from the available players,»Dravid said just before the departure of the 2nd T20I on July 28th.

SLC thanked the BCCI officials for the smooth running of the tour

As the entire tour went successfully according to plans, the SLC reaped profits of over 280 crore Sri Lankan rupees.

It was a very, very valuable tour for us. We have been waiting for it for a long time. We were very grateful to the top BCCI officers – Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly – for granting our request to play three additional T20Is. Originally, the tour only involved three ODIs. This enhanced the commercial value of the entire tour. We ended up making almost $ 14.5 million. It’s a huge boost to our finances,», Revealed the secretary of the SLC.

The SLC official acknowledged the role of the governments of both countries in ensuring that the series does not end abruptly. He discussed how the BCCI, Indian High Commission and team leadership have been following up regularly regarding Krunal Pandya’s exit from the episode. He then thanked sports authorities and government officials who gave a green signal to lead the series.

SLC still has no idea how Krunal contracted the Covid infection

De Silva said the SLC tried to trace how Krunal got infected but couldn’t get a solid clue.

We’re not sure yet, but it could have been because the hotel staff who served Grant Flower (who had returned a positive test before the series) may also have been in contact with Pandya, ”a- he estimated. After Krunal, two other Indian players – Yuzvendra Chahal and K Gowtham – had also tested positive and had to be separated from the Indian contingent.

While India won the ODI series 2-1, Sri Lanka won the T20I competitions by the same margin.
