New Test vice-captain Rohit Sharma began preparations for the Indian tour of South Africa by holding a training session in Mumbai on Friday. The star hitter was seen working with pitching specialists on a pitch that offered pace and bounce.

Rohit Sharma took to social media to share a video clip of the training session where he can be seen getting back into the groove and playing to the rhythm which is expected to dominate the proceedings during the 3-Test series, at from December 26 in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami has also returned to the net at the National Cricket Academy where he can be seen getting a few overs to his name. He was rested from the recently concluded home series against New Zealand with Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma.

Rohit was seen at bat as two pitching specialists played in the opener. He focused on making good deliveries as he hooked and drove towards the net with ease.

On the other hand, Shami was playing full throttle against Kuldeep Yadav at the NCA Nets in Bengaluru.

Rohit had led India to a 3-0 win over the Black Caps on his first full-time assignment as India’s T20I captain.

Before the South African series, Rohit was named India’s Test vice-captain as Ajinkya Rahane lost the role amid a continued decline in batting form. Rahane also did not play in the 2nd and final Test of the series against New Zealand, which India won 1-0, due to injury concerns.

Rohit will be Virat Kohli’s assistant in South Africa and the fly-half will look to continue his good form in white. Rohit has had a great run in the game’s longest format since starting to open in 2019.
