Travel restrictions in West Bengal, state under partial lockdown

During the last days of December 2021, there have been secret discussions about a possible lockdown of Kolkata from the first Monday of the new year, and this has partly come true. The West Bengal government has announced lockdown measures to control the growing number of coronavirus cases in the state.

Travelers to West Bengal should be careful not to venture out and go to bars and restaurants, as they will now only operate at 50% capacity. The same goes for shopping centers. All these establishments will have to close every evening at 10 p.m.

One of the most important parts of the partial lockdown is the ban on traffic, gatherings and public vehicles from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The latest rules suggest that only emergency and essential services will be allowed. .

Since January 3, West Bengal has also banned entry into zoos and other tourist spots. In addition, gymnasiums, swimming pools, spas and lounges will remain closed from tomorrow.

The West Bengal chief secretary said all markets should be sanitized and called on market committees to ensure sanitation is carried out.

The government has decided that people must follow appropriate behavior for COVID at all times, which means wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing are a must. In recent months, the festivities have led to an increase in covid cases, which is causing some concern.

West Bengal reported 4,512 new infections on Saturday, with Kolkata recording 2,398 new cases of COVID.
