“You have to choose a fit man. How many more points does he have to score to prove himself? It is high time that the breeders chose him right away and gave him a good opportunity ”, Dilip Vengsarkar told The Times of India.

“He can also beat at No. 3. He has to be accommodated in the team. It’s not like Ruturaj 18 or 19 years old. He’s 24 now. There is no point in choosing him when he is 28 years old ”, he added.

India Tour from South Africa: Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 136, 154 * and 124 against Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Kerala respectively. The youngster was the top scorer of the last edition of the IPL where he amassed 635 points in 16 games to guide the CSK to register the 4th IPL trophy. He had slammed a century and four fifty in the tournament.

Gaikwad has already made his debut for Team India in T20I. He had scored 35 points during his outings against Sri Lanka as part of India’s second team. The battle for the openers is only heating up with the presence of experienced Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and young Ishan Kishan in the fray for the opening slot.

Vengsarkar was impressed with Gaikwad when he was just a 10 year old boy at his cricket academy in Pune. The veteran of more than 100 Vengsarker tests took him to Lancashire in England for exhibition tours.
