- Zaheer Khan hails Team India’s ‘truly world-class’ bowler ahead of South Africa Test series
- Indian team led by Virat Kohli will play three test matches against hosts South Africa
- The 1st test match between India and South Africa will be played on Sunday at Centurion’s SuperSport Park
“If there’s a bowler who can exploit South African conditions well enough, it would be him,” comments South African captain Dean Elgar who awarded India’s pace ace Jasprit Bumrah an honorable mention in the virtual media interaction before the 1st test match at Centurion. In a bid to claim their first series win on South African soil, the Indian team led by Virat Kohli will take on the Proteas in the 1st Test at SuperSport Park on Sunday.
Praising India’s numero uno Bumrah, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan hailed the speed merchant as a “truly world-class” bowler in international cricket. The former Indian pacer backed the current crop of fast bowlers to deliver the goods for Team India on their first away assignment under coach Rahul Dravid. The 2011 World Cup winner believes the Kohli-led team’s current pace unit has the potential to take 20 wickets in each Test match.
“They are certainly good enough to take 20 wickets in each Test. They have performed consistently all over the world. It is a good balanced attack. The best part is that we have enough variety in the fast bowling pack “, Zaheer Told Hindustan time ahead of the series opener between India and South Africa.
As well as praising senior point guards Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami, former cricketer Zaheer praised Bumrah for confusing top hitters with his deadly pace. Pacer Bumrah had made his Test debut against South Africa at Newlands in 2018. Bumrah became one of the most successful dressmakers for the Indian team in red ball cricket after his hard-hitting debut.
“We have a great bowler like Ishant Sharma to extract extra bounce from difficult lengths and someone like Mohammed Shami with his prominent seam stance who can move the ball back and forth from the bridge. Then we have Jasprit Bumrah, who is truly world class and created problems for hitters with pace and trickery,” he added.
Speaking of India’s world-class bench, Zaheer pointed out that the Kohli-led team are also heading to South Africa with star guards Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj. “We also have an excellent second battery in Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj. Overall we have a well balanced attack and there’s no reason to think they won’t get the desired success.” , added Zaheer.
